Adhesive Tapes are widely used in the garment industries, the most popular ones being: Cotton Cloth Tape, Cellulose Tape, Embroidery Tissue, Pallet Tape, Hook and Loop Tapes, and Seam Sealing Tape. Let us go in detail to see how each one of them can be used:

Cotton Cloth Tape

The Cotton Cloth Tape is a waterproof tape, which is flexible and highly conformable. In the garment industry it can be used in the following ways:

  • For screen printing – the tape helps hold the screen in place without affecting the garment so that the images can be applied onto them
  • Packaging of garments – the tape has excellent tensile strength and tear strength, so it is extremely durable to be used for the packaging.

Embroidery Tape

Double Sided Tissue Tape is also known as Embroidery Tape, because of its application which can be used during computerized embroidery. The tape can be used in the following way:

  • It will secure the garment without leaving the residue on the fabric
  • Embroidery Tape can be used to join ornamental hooks on fabric materials

Cellulose Tape

The Cellulose tape is an ideal tape to be used for sealing and packaging of the garments.

Pallet Tape

The Pallet Tape, also known as the Flat Back Paper Tape or Paper Lifting Tape, helps to protect the print surface of the textile screen print equipment because of its pressure sensitive adhesive. The tape is useful to the garment industry in the following ways:

  • The sensitive adhesive allows the pallet to stay longer
  • Suitable for application of large self-adhesive lettering logos or pressure sensitive decals on garment.

Hook & Loop Tape

Hook & Loop tape, or the Velcro Tape is a 100% nylon, hook & loop fastener which comes with male and female versions which has adhesive on the other side for better application. They are completely washable and can be dry-cleaned also.

So, how is the Hook and Loop Tape used in the garment industry?

  • Can be used to add an open seam
  • Because of their easy use, it is especially popular in clothing and raincoats as a replacement for buttons or zippers.

Seam Sealing Self-Adhesive Tape

Seam Sealing Tape also known as PPE tapes is an excellent tape for medical protective clothing. These are some of the ways in which they can be used in the garment industry:

  • Used in PPE suits to ensure that suits have complete protection from the Covid 19 Virus (or any virus) or bacteria, by sealing the suit from any gaps left by the stitches on the garment.
  • In raincoats, industrial uniforms & military garments to prevent water from leaking through the seams.

Seam Sealing Heat Activated Tape

The Seam Sealing Tape is a special multilayer PE film with special antibacterial adhesive which is applied using a heat-sealing machine for the following garments:

  • PPE Suits
  • Outwear
  • Industrial work wear
  • Tents

Double Sided Tissue Tape

The tape is a lightweight tissue coated with Hotmelt or Acrylic adhesives with anti-rebounding and anti-wrapping properties.

In the garment industry, the tape is used to:

  • Close the flaps for PPE suits to prevent any contamination taking place.
  • Securing and backing the fabric during stitching or embroidery.

TPU Film Tape (Thermoplastic polyurethane)

The TPU Film Tape is a heat activated tape that is used to transfer logos and emblems to garments.

Siliconised Kraft Paper Tape

The tape is an environmentally friendly paper tape that is used for the packaging of garments that would be exported.
