    Frequently asked questions

What is die cutting of adhesive tapes?

Die cutting uses a shaped blade, or die, to cut tape or foam into a defined part. Parts can be supplied on rolls or sheets, ready for manual or automated application.

What is the difference between kiss cutting and through cutting?

Kiss cutting cuts the tape but not the release liner, so parts stay on the liner for easy peeling. Through cutting cuts all layers, producing loose individual parts.

Which materials can be die cut?

Foam tapes, double-sided tapes, transfer adhesives, films, foils and felts can all be die cut.

Which industries use die cut parts?

Automotive, electronics, LED lighting, white goods and solar manufacturers use die cut parts for bonding, sealing, cushioning, insulation and labelling.

Can die cut parts combine several materials?

Multi-layer parts can be laminated before cutting, for example foam with a double-sided adhesive.

What do I need to send for a die cut quote?

Send your drawing, the material you need, the quantity and whether you want the parts on rolls or sheets. Our team will confirm the details with you.

    Frequently asked questions

What is glass cloth tape used for?

It insulates motor and transformer coils, masks parts during high temperature processes, and wraps cables and components that face heat or abrasion.

Is glass cloth tape the same as fibreglass tape?

Glass cloth tape uses a woven fibreglass fabric, so it is a type of fibreglass tape. In construction, “fibreglass tape” often means drywall mesh tape, which is a different product.

Is glass cloth tape electrically insulating?

Yes. Glass fibre is non-conductive, so glass cloth tape is used as electrical insulation in windings and harnesses. Check the insulation class on the datasheet.

What is the difference between glass cloth tape and polyimide tape?

Glass cloth tape is thicker, tougher and more abrasion resistant. Polyimide tape is a thin film that suits precise masking and electronics where space is limited.

Is double sided glass cloth tape available?

Yes, a double sided version is listed at /product/d-s-glass-cloth-tape/.

What temperature can glass cloth tape withstand?

Glass cloth tape is used in high temperature applications, and the rating depends on the insulation class and adhesive. F class and H class grades are available, so check the datasheet for the rating of the grade you need or contact our team.

Frequently asked questions

What is cloth tape used for?

Cloth tape is used for bundling, book and file binding, sandblast and screen-print masking, splicing, and electrical insulation. The backing fabric decides the application: cotton for general use, acetate and glass cloth for electrical work.

What are the main types of cloth tape?

The main types are cotton, acetate, nylon, non-woven and glass cloth tapes, available single or double sided. Each backing differs in strength, temperature resistance and conformability.

What is the difference between cotton and acetate cloth tape?

Cotton cloth tape is a general-purpose, hand-tearable tape for bundling and masking. Acetate cloth tape uses a cellulose acetate fabric and is commonly used for electrical insulation and coil wrapping.

Is duct tape a cloth tape?

Duct tape has a cloth scrim laminated with a polyethylene film, so it is a cloth-reinforced tape. Plain cloth tapes have an uncoated fabric backing and a different feel and use.

What is double sided cloth tape used for?

Double sided cloth tape bonds two surfaces with a fabric carrier, for example in carpet laying, plate mounting or exhibition displays.

Can I buy cloth tape rolls in bulk?

Yes. Cloth tape rolls can be purchased in bulk. Contact our team with your roll size, colour and quantity requirements.
