Edge Sealing Tape
Edge Sealing Tape
Edge Sealing Tape – AS-165 is a specialized adhesive tape designed for the solar industry, particularly for use during the lamination of solar cells. Coated with high-temperature resistant silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive on a polyester film, it delivers strong adhesion along with excellent chemical and solvent resistance.
This transparent tape forms a C-shaped arc around the solar module when the overflow film expands during lamination, offering a reliable sealing solution. With a temperature resistance of up to 200°C, it remains stable under extreme conditions, ensuring long-lasting performance during solar module manufacturing.

More about Edge Sealing Tape
What is Edge Sealing Tape?
Edge Sealing Tape – AS-165 is a high-performance, transparent polyester-based tape designed specifically for the edge encapsulation of photovoltaic (PV) modules during the lamination process. Its core function is to prevent encapsulant overflow—such as EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate)—during vacuum lamination, ensuring a clean and sealed module edge that enhances structural stability and protection from environmental factors.
With a silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive that delivers strong and clean adhesion, AS-165 is capable of withstanding extreme heat up to 200°C. This makes it ideal for the high-temperature environment of solar panel manufacturing. The tape conforms easily to the module’s surface, forming a C-shaped arc seal around the laminated edge, which is critical for moisture prevention, module lifespan, and aesthetic clarity.
Its transparency, thermal endurance, and solvent resistance allow it to remain embedded in the module or be cleanly removed post-processing—depending on the lamination technique used. The tape’s performance ensures no edge leakage, reduced delamination risk, and long-term protection of the panel’s inner components.
Engineered to meet the demands of modern solar technology, Edge Sealing Tape – AS-165 not only improves manufacturing reliability but also supports the performance consistency of solar panels deployed in harsh outdoor environments.
Applications in Various Industries :
Renewable Energy / Solar Industry
Edge Sealing Tape – AS-165 is primarily used in the manufacture of photovoltaic (PV) modules, especially in glass-glass and glass-backsheet module constructions. Its silicone adhesive and high-temperature tolerance make it a reliable performer in the following ways:
-
Edge Protection During Lamination: Applied around the module’s perimeter to contain EVA overflow during vacuum lamination, forming a neat and sealed edge.
-
Improves Module Longevity: By acting as a barrier against moisture ingress, dust, and environmental contaminants, the tape reduces the chances of delamination and corrosion in harsh climates.
-
Thermal Compatibility: Its resistance up to 200°C makes it compatible with high-heat processing without adhesive failure or shrinkage.
-
Dimensional Stability: Maintains shape and bond integrity throughout the lamination process, helping preserve module structure and alignment.
Electronics and Precision Manufacturing
Though designed for solar applications, AS-165 also proves useful in the electronics and high-precision assembly sector:
-
Heat-Resistant Masking: Used in PCB manufacturing and thermal processes that require temporary masking with clean removal.
-
Chemical Processing Environments: Ideal for protection and insulation where chemical exposure is present due to its strong solvent resistance.
-
Cleanroom and Optical Applications: Its non-residual silicone adhesive ensures zero contamination, which is critical for optical devices and cleanroom assembly lines.
General Industrial Applications
-
Protective Sealing: Used during manufacturing processes where temporary but durable sealing is required.
-
Die-Cutting and Labeling Processes: Its dimensional stability and clean-cutting properties make it suitable for custom die-cut applications.
-
Moisture Barrier Tape: In some industries, it acts as a thin-film barrier to protect sensitive surfaces or internal components from ambient moisture during product assembly or shipment
